An introduction to the Generalised Hydrodynamic Approach to out-of-Equilibrium Dynamics in Quantum Systems with a Recent Application by Benjamin Doyon (King’s College London) & Olalla Castro-Alvaredo (City, University of London)

Abstract: In this talk Benjamin will present a brief introduction to the generalised hydrodynamic approach (GHD). GHD has emerged in recent years as one of the leading conceptual and computational methods by which dynamical quantities in many-body quantum systems out of equilibrium can be computed. As the name suggests, the approach is based on using hydrodynamic principles to describe the time evolution of large sets of quantum particles. After introducing the basic equations and quantities of interest, Olalla will proceed by presenting some recent work where this approach is applied to a specific integrable quantum field theory which has the interesting feature of possessing an unstable particle in its spectrum. She will show that the presence of this unstable excitation can be linked to the emergence of interesting dynamical properties.
