• Social excursions 

    Excursions will take place in the afternoon of Wednesday May 29, 2024.

    Participation is limited and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservation is possible up to maximum number of participants through the registration form on indico.

    • Pianosa Island (max 150 participants)

    Duration: approximately 7:30 hours, departure at 11:30 from Hotel Hermitage.

    This tour will take you to one of the most impressive islands of the Tuscan archipelago: Pianosa, a former high-security prison and now a beautiful National Park. The accessible areas are limited and include the outskirts of the harbour area and the village, and excursions may only be taken with a licensed guide. You will have a chance to swim in the crystal-clear waters of Cala Giovanna, one the most beautiful bays on the island and the only authorised place for swimming.

    Notes: The lunch box will be provided by the conference organization. You can specify any dietary restriction in the registration form. You should be wearing closed and comfortable shoes and long pants for the excursion, and you should bring your sunscreen and drinking water with you.

    • Napoleon’s Museum and Tour of Marciana Marina (max 50 participants)

    Duration: approximately 4 hours, departure from Hotel Hermitage at 15:00

    This tour includes a visit of the House of Napoleon in San Martino, the Summer Residence of the Emperor during his stay on the island, as well as the Demidoff Gallery, as well as a tour Marciana Marina, an attractive little seaside resort, once a fisher village, and now one of the most exclusive tourist destinations on the island.

    • Tour to Porto Azzurro and Wine Tasting (max 50 participants)

    Duration: approximately 4 hours, departure from Hotel Hermitage at 15:00

    This excursion includes a panoramic tour of Porto Azzurro, a charming fishing village and resort which invites you to browse, shop for local handicrafts, or enjoy one of the outdoor cafes along the picturesque fishermen’s harbour and then a wine tasting in one of the most charming vineyards of the Island.

    The owners of the vineyard, the Arrighi family, are historic producers, capable of combing tradition with innovation and producing excellent wines.
