dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u03b3<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">decay.<\/span><br role=\"presentation\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">MEG<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">tightest<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">constraints<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">on<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">models<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">predicting<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">LFV-enhancements<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">through<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">new <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">physics beyond the Standard Model.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">An upgrade of MEG, MEG II, was designed and it recently <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">started the first physics data taking,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">aiming at reaching a sensitivity level of 6<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u00d7<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">10<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u2212<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">14<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">In order <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">to<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">reconstruct<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">positron<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">momentum<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">vector<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">a<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Cylindrical<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Drift<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">CHamber<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">(CDCH)<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">was<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">built, <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">featuring angular and momentum resolutions at 6.5 mrad and 100 keV\/c level.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Despite this kind of <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">gas detectors was used since late \u201960s, the MEG II drift chamber presents a series of unprecedented <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">peculiarities.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">CDCH is a 2-meter long, 60 cm in diameter, low-mass, single volume detector with <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">high<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">granularity:<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">9<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">layers<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">192<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">drift<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">cells,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">few<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">mm<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">wide,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">defined<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">by<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">12000<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">wires<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">in<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">a<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">stereo <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">configuration<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">for<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">longitudinal<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">hit<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">localization.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">single<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">drift<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">cell<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">is<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">quasi-square<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">with<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">a<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">20<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u03bc<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">m <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Gold-plated<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Tungsten<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">sense<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">wire<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">surrounded<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">by<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">40\/50<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u03bc<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">m<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Silver-plated<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Aluminum<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">field<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">wires.<\/span><br role=\"presentation\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Given<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">high<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">wire<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">density<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">(12<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">wires\/cm<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">2<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">),<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">CDCH<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">is<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">first<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">drift<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">chamber<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">ever<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">designed<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">built<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">in<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">a<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">modular<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">way.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">filling<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">gas<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">mixture<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">is<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Helium:Isobutane<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">90:10.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">total<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">radiation <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">length<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">is<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">1<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">.<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">5<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">allowing<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">for<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">a <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">single-hit<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">resolution<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">&lt;<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">120<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u03bc<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">m.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">After the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">assembly<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">phase<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">at INFN<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Pisa,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">CDCH was<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">transported<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"> to PSI and it has been integrated into the MEG II experimental apparatus since 2018.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Aluminum<\/span><br role=\"presentation\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">wire breaking problems arose during the assembly and commissioning.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Deep analyses showed that <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">origin<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">breaking<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">phenomenon<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">is<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">chemical<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">corrosion<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Al<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">core<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">in<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">presence<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"> water<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">condensation<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">on<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">wires<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">from<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">ambient<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">humidity.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Keeping<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">wires<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">volume<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">in<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">an<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">absolutely <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">dry<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">atmosphere<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">proved<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">to<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">be<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">effective<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">to<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">stop<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">development<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">corrosion.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Anomalous<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">high <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">currents (up to 300<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u03bc<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">A) were observed in some sectors during the conditioning period.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">These were <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">cured through a gas mixture optimization with the addition of up to 2% Oxygen, which was then <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">gradually reduced to a lower content.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The commissioning phase lasted for the past three years with <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">continuous improvements both on the hardware and software side.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The final lengthening was set <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">operational stability<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">was<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">reached<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">in 2020.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">complete read<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">out electronics<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">is<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">available <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">for the first time in 2021, allowing a full noise and signal check and the tuning of the reconstruction <\/span><span
