{"id":9555,"date":"2021-10-26T14:25:16","date_gmt":"2021-10-26T12:25:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pi.infn.it\/?p=9555"},"modified":"2021-10-26T14:37:02","modified_gmt":"2021-10-26T12:37:02","slug":"galactic-archeology-recovering-the-history-of-star-formation-in-nearby-galaxies-with-deep-color-magnitude-diagrams-di-michele-cignoni-universita-di-pisa-infn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pi.infn.it\/?p=9555","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Galactic Archeology: recovering the history of star formation in nearby galaxies with deep color-magnitude diagrams&#8221; di Michele Cignoni (Universit\u00e0 di Pisa \/INFN)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">Abstract<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">The premise of &#8220;Galactic Archeology&#8221; is that the study of nearby galaxies on a star-by-star basis has implications that extend far beyond the local Universe.\u00a0In this talk I will discuss the technique of deriving the star formation history (SFH) of a galaxy through the comparison of state-of-the-art synthetic color-magnitude diagrams (CMD) with the observational counterpart.\u00a0As a first example I will present the SFH of 23 star forming dwarf galaxies between 3 and 12\u00a0Mpc\u00a0using Hubble Space Telescope data from the Legacy\u00a0ExtraGalactic\u00a0UV Survey (LEGUS). Approximately half of our galaxies show spatial progression of star formation in the last 60\u00a0Myr, and\/or very recent diffuse and off-center activity compared to old stars.
